Cranes
These photos by Annie Oelschlager show just a sample of the hundreds of handmade origami paper cranes that people left behind for peace. According to the Children's Peace Monument Web site by the City of Hiroshima, folding paper into cranes for peace began when a survivor of the atomic bomb, Sadako Sasaki, fell ill with leukemia and began making cranes herself. Please see the references below for more on cranes for peace and how to make them.
