Cards
Thousands of people from near and far brought cards in person or sent them in the mail to show their support to NIU. These photos by
Annie Oelschlager show a few of the thousands of cards created to comfort the NIU community:
A card from Virginia Tech,the text reads:
"R.I.P. Huskies.
Philippians 4:13.
Our hearts, our prayers, and our love goes out ot you. We understand the pain, the thoughts, and the fear that have been instilled. I promise you that a new day will come. Another day is on the horizon. Don't let this rob your campus of it's pride and joy. We love you guys and we are praying for you.

A card colored by young schoolchildren from the DeKalb School District. Children from different grade levels colored hundreds of cards left in the Campus Life Building to help welcome back NIU students after over a week of canceled classes:
A card from Señora Jennings' Spanish classes at DeKalb High School. Forward, Together translates as ¡Avancemos juntos! Other words on the card are:

One of hundreds of cards and posters left behind, this one by an anonymous person. The card reads, "Please stay strong. Please love each other. Please understand how we need to end the violence," with two peace symbols and a heart.
Someone from Northland College gave this card which simply says, "Northland College hearts NIU." Northland College is an environmental liberal arts college in Ashland, Wisconsin.
