On the inside page of the first edition of "The Life of Joseph Garibaldi," Dime Biographical Library No. I, is the announcement that "The Cruiser of the Chesapeake" by Charles Wentworth will soon be issued. When Dime Novel No. 74 actually appeared, the author on the title page was given as Lieut. Robert Phillipse, U.S.N. Since nothing is known of either Wentworth or Phillipse, it is impossible to say which one, if either, is the author's true name. Novels under the name Phillipse are therefore given here under that name, although it is quite likely that Wentworth was his true name.
