Project Information


The Beadle and Adams Dime Novel Digitization Project is a multi-year initiative by the Northern Illinois University Libraries to further research on the topic of early American literature and Dime Novels. Concentration will be placed on digitizing The House of Beadle and Adams and its Dime and Nickel Novels, the landmark bibliography by Albert Johannsen. The digitized bibliography will provide a framework for the digitization of the Beadle's publications held in the NIU Libraries. The NIU Libraries hold Albert Johannsen's own collection of Beadle & Adams Dime Novels and other popular literature of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. This collection includes Johannsen's notes, papers, dry plates, and memorabilia from when he wrote The House of Beadle and Adams and its Dime and Nickel Novels and his career as a petrologist and professor.
