Whether Marie Montrose is a real or a pen name is unknown. She wrote for the Philadelphia Dollar Newspaper in the early 1850's, and her serial, "The Gambler" began in it September 11, 1850. A poem in the issue for January 15, 1851, had the author's address as Darby, Pennsylvania.
† William Abbatt in The Colloquial Who's Who, Tarrytown, New York, 1924, I, American and Canadian Authors, says Marie Montrose was John E. Tull [sic]. Does he mean John E. Tuel?
