Anne Caldwell, daughter of James Caldwell, Recorder of Newcastle-under-Lynn and Deputy-Lieutenant of Staffordshire, was born in Staffordshire in 1796. Her first novel, "Two Old Men's Tales" (1834), was published anonymously, as were all of her books, and by 1865 she had produced some twenty-seven. She was married to Arthur Cuthbert Marsh (died in 1849), but after her brother's death in 1858 she became the head of the Caldwell family and had her name changed to Marsh-Caldwell. She died October 5, 1874.
