Katharine Sarah Gadsden, daughter of Thomas T. and Phoebe Gadsden, was born in London in 1824, and died there in June, 1917, at the age of 94. She was the wife of Thomas R. MacQuoid, the artist. Her first story appeared in The Welcome Guest in 1859. She wrote more than sixty books, mostly novels, some of which were illustrated by her husband, but she also wrote some travel books in collaboration with him. Her last book was written when she was 93.
