"The Settlers, a Tale of the Forest," by Charles Parker Ilsley, was one of the stories in "The Wrecker's Daughter and Other Tales," published in Boston in 1861. Previously it appeared in "Forest and Shore; or, Legends of the Pine-Tree State," Boston, 1859, A comparison of "The Settlers," with "The Trail of the Ossipees," and "The Border Scout," both given in the Beadle editions as by Charles P. Isley, show that they are identical.
