Edward P. Hollister, who wrote a biography of Lafayette for Beadle under the initials "E.P.H.," was a lawyer and a writer. He was a son of Harvey Hollister and his wife Louisa May, and was born in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839. He spent his youth in that village and became a member of the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church in April, 1858. He was married to Agnes Griswold, of Greenwich, New York, October 22, 1862, and died in 1877. He wife died in 1868. They had two children, Edward Griswold and Wolcott, both living in Cooperstown some years ago. Edward Payson Hollister was at one time associate editor of the Home Journal, which was edited by N. P. Willis and G. P. Morris, and between 1863 and 1869 was a lawyer, banker, and broker in New York City.
