No biographical data has been found about Arthur M. Grainger, and it is not known whether the name was real or a pseudonym. The earliest story found with this signature was "Golden Feather," which appeared in the New York Mercury, XXII, July 7, 1860, and was reprinted by Beadle several times, first in American Tales, No. 57, in 1869.
