† William H. Manning, in a letter written June 2, 1918, and now in my possession, said: "Edwin Emerson was Joseph F. Henderson, once of Richmond, Indiana, and later a newspaper man in Chicago, and still later the editor of The Woman's Home Companion, but when that magazine changed hands some 15 years ago, he was succeeded by another editor." If this statement is accepted, the following novels should be transferred to Henderson's name. Denis R. Rogers, (Round-Up, No. 330, March, 1960, 21) however, thought that Emerson was Edward S. Ellis.
