MANY ADDITIONS have been made to the biographies in Volume II, most of them obtained by carefully examining the now rare story-papers of the 1860's, 1870's, and 1880's. Most of the items found were short and they had to be used with care for they were often plain gossip or brief "Answers to Correspondents." Many had to be omitted as untrustworthy.
