Under the title "Hazelwood," this novel appeared as a serial in the New York Mercury, XXVI, beginning in No. 1323, May 28, 1864.

Locales: Riverside and New York City, St. Croix, Canada, and England.

New York City in 1857-58. Two orphans in a great city— on the Connecticut river—married to the wrong man—a jump into the river and a supposed drowning—en route to London—a ship afire—on the stage—the wrong man appears again—married at last.

Previously published as "Blanche; or, The Lost Diamond," serially in the New York Mercury, XXIV, beginning in No. 1217, May 17, 1862. The author was there given as "Septimus R. Urban," the pseudonym of Malcolm J. Rymer.

London. A young girl, left alone and friendless, finds man her worst foe and best friend. A poor man's temptation.

Under the title "Blanche Grafton," this story was previously published as a serial in the New York Mercury, XXIX, beginning in No. 1464, February 9, 1867. Zella Dangerfield and her brother, a New Orleans Spaniard, try to ruin Blanche Grafton.

A romance of London during the great plague of 1666.

Previously published as a serial in the New York Mercury, XXIV, beginning in No. 1237, October 4, 1862, and under the title "Kitty Atherton." Later Frederic A. Brady published it as a cloth-bound book with six woodcuts by W. Corway.

Under the title "Catholina," this story was published as a serial in the New York Mercury, XXIII, beginning in No. 1146, January 5, 1861.

A melodramatic story of a man walled up alive; yellow fever in New Orleans in 17—; a girl who feigned death a la Juliet; a useless murder for an inheritance. The story has a pseudo-Masonic undercurrent.

In the list in the front of Frank Starr's Fifteen Cent Illustrated Novels, no. 15, the author is given as Margaret Blount, but this is an error, for the novel itself has the name Urban on cover and title.

Previously published under the title "The Vendetta," as a serial in the New York Mercury, XXV, beginning in No. 1267, May 2, 1863. Here also the author is given as Urban.
