NIU CARLI Collection Development Grant -- ESL

Information about CARLI Collection Development Grant

Reflective Summary
Collecting materials in the areas of adult and continuing education, as well as in comparative/international education, has been a recognized strength of  NIU Libraries for some time. In the past, we have specifically focused on Europe and Asia, as our catalog holdings as well as NIU's renowned, interdisciplinary Donn V. Hart Southeast Asia Collection indicate. NIU used the grant money to purchase additional materials targeting this subject area. We selected print resources, including (but not limited to) handbooks, encyclopedias, historical studies, comparative studies, curriculum-supporting materials, and dissertations that are not readily available in the state. We included titles in English as well as in native languages. NIU's geographical focus on Asia and Europe complements collecting efforts of other Illinois institutions targeting the field of comparative/international higher education, most importantly ISU, acquiring materials on African and South American higher education. We are delighted with the number of quality titles we acquired with the CARLI funds, and firmly believe that, with the increasing emphasis on global and international topics, the collection will benefit the entire state of Illinois.
