Octave Feuillet, French novelist and playwright, was born in St. Lo (La Manche) August II, 1821, and died in Paris December 29, 1890. He wrote numerous rather witty "ladies' " novels. His first story, "Le roman d'lin jeune homme paiwre" (1858), has often been used as a French reader in this country. He is said to have collaborated for a time in Dumas' novel factory, and he was elected to the French Academy in 1863.
